Sail along the Mae Klong River to Wat Bang Kung to explore a small chapel, before heading to King Rama II Memorial Park and Museum. Next is the Amphawa floating market, which sells everything from fresh flowers to wind-up toys.
Visit Wat Po, one of Bangkok’s oldest and largest temples, famous for the 43m reclining Buddha. The tour continues at Lak Muang, Bangkok’s city pillar, before heading to the famous Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Pra Kaew), the most revered shrine in the Kingdom. Lunch is included at a riverside restaurant before boarding a longtail boat to explore the klongs, Bangkok’s maze of canals and waterways to see parts of Thai traditional life which have disappeared from most of Bangkok. End the day with a visit to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, before returning to your hotel.
Departure transfer northwest through the city and out through the suburbs, past emerald-green rice paddocks to the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai in the Kanchanaburi province. The Chung Khai War Cemetery gives an impression of the circumstances in which the Burma Railway was built by prisoners of war, Thai and Burmese conscripts and enforced labour brought in from Malaya and the Dutch East Indies during the Second World War. We include a stop at the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre as well as a train journey across the bridge. Continue your journey to your hotel.
Morning excursion to the visit the Erawan Waterfall, named after the three-headed white elephant of Hindu mythology. You will spend a couple of hours here, with time to walk up all the way to the top of the waterfall or to swim in the crystal clear water at one of the many levels of the falls. Free afternoon and evening to spend at your own leisure.
Journey north to Ayutthaya – the former capital and a centre of art and architecture.The Buddhas from the Ayutthaya-period are some of the country’s most treasured. Visit some of the historical temples such as Wat Sri Sanpet, Wat Phananchoeng and Wat Yai Chai Mongkol. Onwards travel to Hualumpong Railway Station in time to board the night train to Surat Thani.
You will be met at Surat Thani railway station and transferred to Khao Sok. Afternoon river trip along the Sok River, where sometimes reptiles can be seen basking in the sun on the riverbanks. Experience some of the last areas of primary rainforest, that has changed little in thousands of years. Visit the Elephant sanctuary before heading to a rainforest lodge to stay the night.
Excursion to Cheow-Lan Lake, travelling by a long-tail boat. This man-made lake is surrounded by Limestone Mountains and tropical rainforest. There are more than a hundred islands in the lake which is more than 60 km long. During the trip there will be time for you to dip into the lake’s emerald water, if you wish. At the end of the day, return to your rainforest lodge or camp.
Day at leisure in Khao Sok for you to enjoy optional activities, such as a jungle cooking experience, canoeing through the jungle, or a night safari tour where you can spot the nocturnal creatures leaving their hideouts. If you would like us to arrange anything in particular then let us know.
In the morning, journey into the rainforest by foot to spot a great variety of exotic plants, tropical hardwood trees, orchids, palms, ferns, bamboos and mosses. Keep your eyes peeled for gibbons, macaques or leaf monkeys and birdlife. Return to your jungle lodge for your onwards transfer to your hotel in Krabi.
Time at leisure in Krabi. On one of the days, enjoy a full day excursion to Phi Phi island, reputedly one of the most beautiful islands in the world with lunch at a local restaurant.
You will be driven to Krabi airport in time to check in for your flight back to Bangkok ahead of your onwards connection home. Farewell Thailand!
