Bagan, on the shore of the Irawaddy River in central Myanmar, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is indeed one of the greatest archaeological sites in Asia, with over 4000 temples, stupas, monasteries and archaeological remains, concentrated into just a few square miles.
